The adapter works great! Once you locate the prewired car cable the adapter plugs directly into the harness. I have located the adapter and the long cable in the armrest compartment, making my installation almost like a factory design. The adapter works very well with the car factory radio. It makes the Ipod a natural extension of the enterntaiment system. The Radio controls are active and the display provides the song/artist information once it is activated. The DICE is a nice addition to your X3.

I was a bit leery about purchasing this since others seem to have had problems with this. However, I took the plunge since I can buy it from Amazon (good price, free shipping and a good return policy). I have had it for 3 weeks and it’s works as advertised. The sound is CD quality. I can control the play by song, list, album or artist via my OEM radio head unit (2005 X5 3.0 with Business CD and No DSP). The titles scroll through the display in the dash only and not in the head unit – I think because I’m connecting it through a blitzsafe adapter for XM satellite radio. That’s okay though since it’s much easier and safer to scan the information directly in front of you in the instrument pod instead of looking at the radio. A nice surprise, it charges my Touch, but not my wife’s Nano.

The installation was relatively easy if you know where BMW keeps its CD changer (in the hatch area on the driver’s side). Per instruction, I disconnected the batteries before I hooked up the Dice unit – I think this may explain the issues experienced by some. Since you have to remove the spare before you can disconnect the battery (sits under the spare) I think some users didn’t bother to do this the first time they hook up the Dice unit. The electronics in the unit is a bit sensitive and if you don’t let the power drain completely during the initial startup it causes issues – just a guess here though – I may change my mind if the unit starts to have problems with extended use.

At first I left IPOD connection in the hatch, but then got ambitious last weekend and ran the wires into the cabin and put the connection (along with the Dice unit) in the center armrest bin. Now it’s just like an OEM hookup and even thought it took 2 hours I’m very happy with it (so’s my wife – it’s her car).

The DICE is not accepting new product registrations through their web site.

The DICE product support website displays their product manuals. Nothing more.

Troubleshooting options are limited to unplugging and replugging it in.

This means fishing around in the trunk of my car.

Further, the manual claims that the product is compatible with a 160 gig Ipod Classic.

But it is probable that so much data is not capable of being transferred to the head unit with level of functionality advertised.

I should have done my homework before buying this junk.

It is not worth the plastic of which it is made.

That’s all I have to say.

I bought this and installed it on my 2001 BM& 740il…but it didn’t work. Dice service was very good, they sent me a replacement even though I did not buy from them, Got it working finally…. but every couple weeks it stops working and I have to work to get the unit to see my ipod. This, combined with “ok” but not great sound quality (this may be because I had a digital equalizer that we had to change to analog (another Dice product) made this a lot of work… would have been easier to have burned cd’s and changed them occasionally…… just my two cents.

I understand I was lucky to have text on my radio I have an August 2005 Mini Cooper S. The vendor was very accommodating we sent the iBMWt and the iBMWt Silver back and forth a couple times and he nver said boo. First I have the factory navigation(GPS) with the factory Harmon CD/radio/Spkr/aux input package. The i-BMW-T locked me out of iPod control so I could only navigate the iPod from the radio. I did get text on the radio, but it also took over my GPS to display text. It only reverts back to the GPS display when you get instructions . You get song/album/and artist info in the next trk mode. In the play list mode it reads “playlist”. The info is useless. It starts reading playlist from where you jumped in as track one. The controls did work on the steering wheel I could change tracks, play list, albums. If you want full iPod control and want good sound you can get a mini to iPod doc conector from Amazon for under $20.00. Works great. The Silver was worse, no text on the radio. Text on the GPS display.

If every thing worked the way it was supposed to you still have to select what you want to do on the radio and then use the steering wheel to execute it. I would not recommend this device. Its to limited.
